installing os x 10.5.7 on eee pc 1000he

below is a draft of a post that i recently composed about my new asus. it’s now up and running, gorgeously! as i quickly became carried away in the terminal-heavy processes, i never finished the piece. nonetheless, here’s a taste ;)

hey all…this is another one of those fairly boring technical posts. unless, of course, you’re trying to do the task that i describe. then you’d find it rather stimulating (and enormously time saving).

this time, i’m chronicling my experience tweaking the new asus eee pc 1000he to handle the freshest retail version of os x. you may recall that i previously wrote about my efforts involving the 1000ha, which went perfectly! well, i gifted that system to my father, and the simplest replacement involved a slight model change from the ha to the he. there’s not much of a difference between the hardware. here are the brief pros and cons:

good – the he has integrated bluetooth, an upgraded battery, a different ‘clickier’ keyboard, and a newer stock wifi card that supports 802.11 n.

bad – the stock wifi still doesn’t work with any os x drivers/kernels, and the system isn’t available in white :(

again, my real intention in writing this is simply to create an outline for my own future machinations. i’ve realized that even a cursory description saves lots of subsequent work.
